Ski Trip Information

Here is some information on the Lake Tahoe ski trip following the conference:

Location:

We will be skiing in North Lake Tahoe, mostly at Alpine meadows (www.skialpine.com) and Squaw Valley (www.squaw.com).  Other mountains in the area include Northstar (www.northstarattahoe.com) and Homewood (www.skihomewood.com).   All of these resorts have full ski-rental shops.

Accommodation:

Some attendees will be sharing accommodation in a rented vacation house.  If you would like to join this group, you must contact Brian Gerke (bgerke@slac.stanford.edu) no later than **December 19th**.   If you prefer a hotel, the best bet is probably to find one in Tahoe City or King's Beach.  Staying in Truckee is also an option, though it lacks the lake view.  Below is an incomplete list of hotels in Tahoe City and around, in roughly increasing order of price.

  1. Tamarack Lodge: www.tamarackattahoe.com

  2. Mother Nature's Inn: www.mothernaturesinn.com

  3. The Cottage Inn: www.thecottageinn.com

  4. Sunnyside Lake Tahoe: www.sunnysidetahoe.com

  5. The Village at Squaw Valley: www.thevillageatsquaw.com

Transportation:

Lake Tahoe is located roughly three hours' drive from Berkeley.   It is likely that some people will be driving up on Friday evening, with others leaving early on Saturday morning.  It may be possible to find rides to Tahoe with local people for many of the out-of-towners, but it is likely that some attendees will have to rent vehicles.  If you do rent a vehicle, four-wheel drive is strongly recommended at this time of year.  (If you are planning to drive your personal (non-4WD) car, you should carry snow chains.)  If you would like to share a ride, or if you can offer a ride to another attendee, please contact Brian Gerke (bgerke@slac.stanford.edu) as soon as possible.
