The
DEEP2 Redshift Survey is intended to characterize galaxies

|
and
large-scale structure at z~1 for comparison to z~0, with
|
|
|
|
sampling
comparable to surveys of the local universe.

A
survey of ~ 60,000 galaxies in four 0.5° ´2°
fields will be
|
|
|
conducted
in 120 nights over 3 years using the new DEIMOS
|
|
|
|
spectrograph at
the Keck Observatory.
|
|
|
| • |
DEIMOS
will allow us to obtain spectra with resolution R~5000
|
|
|
|
(~65
km s-1 FWHM) for 100-150 galaxies at a time, allowing
|
|
|
detection
of the O[II] 3727 doublet for galaxies with 0.7< z <1.4
|
|
|
| • |
Linewidths
or rotation curves for 25-50% of sample
|
|
|
| • |
Complementary
data from HST, XMM, SIRTF, GALEX, S-Z…
|
|
| • |
Spectroscopic
observations will begin Spring 2002!
